1st Studio Project...

The first project of the year for both middle and high school Art 1 focused on the elements of line, shape, and pattern, and the principles of unity/ variety, balance, and emphasis. I like to start out my introductory art classes with an abstract project, which eases students into the process of designing a composition while allowing for some creativity to shine through.
Before launching into lessons of observational drawing and realism, students need to be hyper-aware of the types/ varieties of all lines and shapes, since these are the things that compose every object in the universe that can be drawn. All in all I think everyone did an excellent job on this project--- I was very pleased with the levels of effort and craftsmanship that were poured into the works,  and look forward to seeing similar/ better (!) results as our projects progress.
